Travelling with electronics

I am one to believe that while travelling you want to leave all your mod cons at home for as long as you can! travelling with a laptop defeats the purpose of getting away and then times when I have had the most fun is when you are forced to leave all of that at home.

Saying all that I still like to have a Phone, IPod and Camera and a portable speaker for music. So this begs the question of how do you effectively manage all this without ending up with 4 difference transformers?

I have been using a USB setup for a while now and it is great. I bought a USB transformer that can charge an IPod in Turkey, making sure i tested it in the shop because a few I found didn’t work. Then I found I found a small USB cable to change my IPOD, one for my Nokia, one for my portable speaker (more about this soon). Here is the problem, my Canon Ixus a great little camera but the charger is huge with a big long cable.

My USB transformer puts out 5V at 1 Amp. My battery is 3.7V 760mAh. There has to be someone who can make a little USB cable that can charge my battery. If you can I will pay you for it!

The way forward, only buy things that are built on standards

  • 3.5mm Headphones (not SE phone ones, or Nokia with 2.5mm)
  • USB compatible that can work off just a cable
