Stories from people along the way number 1
Well when you are travelling you undoubtedly meet a heap of people who have a heap of stories, I will try and share some of the ones that I have found quite funny.
The Russian and the American – Someone I bumped into this couple in
Vietnam and started to talk to them, the weird thing was that she could only speak Russian and he could only speak English (not a word either way). After talking to the American it turned out they met on the internet and had been chatting for two years on Instant Messenger. They had always been best of buds and decided to take the next step and meet. They decided to travel around
Vietnam for two weeks together. When they met it turned out that she had been using a translation program the whole time so everything she typed was in Russian and the program did the rest. What a painful couple of weeks that could be. Going from
Russia to
Mongolia on the train. Ed told me this when they were getting on the last stop all these Mongolians got on the train with heaps of stuff, so some had boots, Carburettors for motor bikes could be anything. Then they went around the train handing them out to everyone and writing down who had what in a frenzy of activity. Then when the Russian inspectors come on they turn the train upside down and can’t find a thing. Just across the border they run around to everyone and get all their stuff back. I would love to witness that. Books that are worth a read – again from Ed, I am trying to get him to write a list on his Blog www.lowcarbontravel.com, apparently there is a book where this guy lost a pub bet and he had to hitchhike around
Ireland with a fridge, and couldn’t pay for any of his trip. I think that would be well worth a read.
